  30. PAYROLL USA is probably the most comprehensive payroll system on the ShareWare
  31. market. It is also better than most commercial payrolls. Works in ANY State.
  32. and interfaces to ANY Accounting System (even manual bookkeeping).  It does
  33. EVERYTHING, maintain employee info., calculates pay and taxes (yes, it can
  34. handle California SDI), prints checks or payslips (with option for direct bank
  35. transfers) check register, payroll register, summary journal, even does 941,
  36. 940, W-2, 1099-MISC, and Quarterly State Unemployment List. Handles taxes on
  37. Employee Benefit Plans.  Can also export files to Lotus, Quattro, dBASE, etc.
  38. Also handles multiple pay frequencies, and Accountants doing client payroll
  39. will appreciate its ability to handle multiple employee files. Complete
  40. documentation on disk ready to print out. Needs minimum 640K installed RAM and
  41. a hard disk. Runs on IBM XT, AT, PS/2, and 286/386/486 compatibles. If you are
  42. looking for payroll you MUST try this one.  Optional extra cost add ons are
  43. available for: Magnetic Media W-2, Check Reconciliation, and an interface to
  44. "The General Store" point of sale system.

  108. How you post them on your board depends largely on personal preferences and
  109. how much time your users are allowed to download a file.  They could be in one
  110. large ZIP file, PAYUSA50.ZIP, containing the entire contents of our
  111. distribution diskette zipped into one file, with the FILE_ID.DIZ description
  112. visible in your download directory, example:

  115.               The best payroll system on the market for the
  116.               IBM PC XT and 286/386/486 compatibles running
  117.               DOS.  Includes PIF and ICO files for start up
  118.               from Windows 3.1 if you have it (but windows
  119.               is not required).  Very complete payroll for
  120.               all sizes of company, lots of features, works
  121.               in any State. Can handle multiple files (good
  122.               for multi-client payroll prep. services).

  124.               slips), govt. forms & internal reports. Use
  125.               with any accounting system. Requires hard
  126.               drive and dot matrix or laser printer.

  129. or if you prefer to split it into 2 smaller ZIP files you might want to use
  130. our supplied 2DISKSET.BAT to create two 360K diskettes then zip each 360K
  131. diskette into PAYUS501.ZIP and PAYUS502.ZIP then post them with a modified
  132. FILE_ID.DIZ description for each, or with the PAYUS50.TXT information file and
  133. a one liner description such as:

  139. Either way please do not unzip our zips and repack them, just create a big zip
  140. with our zips, our install, and our other files inside of your zip.  (If you
  141. wish to unzip our zips for testing or virus checking do not re-zip the
  142. unpacked files, just delete them when you are done testing and create your
  143. distribution zip(s) only from our supplied diskette).

  145. Our install.exe does not care if our zips are on one diskette or two, or even
  146. if they are on a hard drive, but we do require that the end user have access
  147. to our install so that our zips are finally unpacked onto our standard
  148. directory names for ease of telephone support and upgrades.
  149.  
  150. It will take about one hour to download both disks at 2400 baud (half an hour
  151. each), or about 15 minutes total at 9600 baud.  It is a big download but it
  152. will be worthwhile.

  155. DISKETTE VENDORS
  156. ----------------
  157.  
  158. If you received it direct from us Payroll USA will be on one 3 1/2 inch low
  159. density (720K) disk so it can be installed on older computers that have low
  160. density drives.  The low density disk is also readable "as is" by high density
  161. 3 1/2 inch drives. It can also easily be copied to high density 5 1/4 inch 1.2
  162. meg or 3 1/2 inch 1.44 meg disks with DOS COPY *.* or XCOPY *.* to a pre-
  163. formatted high density disk of the required size.  Those vendors still selling
  164. low density 5 1/4 inch 360K disks can split our distribution disk using our
  165. supplied 2DISKSET.BAT file. If you add your own start up program it must start
  166. our INSTALL.EXE (which will be on disk 1 of a 2 disk set). If you need more
  167. space for your own vendor distribution files delete PAYUS50.TXT and if that
  168. does not give you enough space then also delete 2DISKSET.BAT, if still not
  169. enough then (reluctantly) VENDOR.DOC and SYSOP.DOC can also go. Do not delete
  170. anything else.

  172. As long as all files are present, our INSTALL.EXE does not care whether it is
  173. one or two diskettes or whether they are low or high density.
  174.  
  175. DO NOT install or otherwise expand all the component zips (payus50a.zip,
  176. payus50b.zip payus50c.zip etc.) then re-pack them for distribution in some
  177. different order or with different names. Our install.exe depends on finding
  178. our file names in the original zip file names we gave them.  It makes it
  179. simpler for the end user to install the registered user version and annual
  180. upgrades if the unzipped shareware version is on a known directory (which our
  181. install uses - \PAYPGMS for the working programs and \PAYSLIDE for the slide
  182. show).

  185. INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTES
  186. ---------------------------

  188. If you received the two diskettes, put disk 1 in drive A and type
  189.

  194. then insert disk 2 when prompted.   If using drive B to install then simply
  195. substitute B: for the A: in the above instructions.  If install finds that all
  196. files are on one diskette you will not be prompted for a second diskette.

  199. INSTALLATION FROM MODEM DOWNLOADS
  200. ---------------------------------
  201.  
  202. If you downloaded the disks over your modem as two large ZIP or ARC etc. files
  203. then they must be unpacked first onto whichever directory you use to test
  204. downloads, or onto diskettes.  They can both be unpacked onto the same disk or
  205. directory.  Once unpacked make that directory the active directory and run the
  206. INSTALL program, it will do the rest for you.  (You will be unzipping the
  207. file(s) you downloaded to reconstitute what would have been on a distribution
  208. diskette, then INSTALL will be unzipping that onto the final working
  209. directories. You can delete the contents of the intermediate directory
  210. containing INSTALL.EXE after installation is complete)
  211.  
  212. If you experience any difficulty with the INSTALL program you may install the
  213. files manually.  The DOS commands to do this (assuming your hard disk is drive
  214. C and you unpacked the two large ZIP or ARC files onto a directory called
  215. \DOWNLOAD) would be:

  237. Decompressing the ZIP files is a one time job.  It need never be done a second
  238. time.  Once decompressed, whether manually or by the INSTALL.EXE program, you
  239. can run the component programs as follows:

  247. The Slide Show was last updated March, 1990. It is rather dated and in 1994
  248. was replaced by the new 20 page Payroll USA instruction manual PAYUSA.DOC
  249. which can be displayed or printed from the PAYUSA.EXE start up menu choice
  250. "F3  READ OR PRINT DOCUMENTATION & REGISTRATION INFO". It contains all most
  251. users need to know in a much more compact and up to date form than the old
  252. slide show. We are, however, retaining the Slide Show for now as a reference
  253. source should you need it.
